Marble tiles are the perfect finishing touch for your bathroom. Not only are they elegant, but they are also waterproof and very durable. However, it is not easy to keep them in shiny condition all the time. It requires a lot of care and attention. Here’s what you need to know about maintaining your marble shower.

    Daily cleaning

Daily cleaning of your marble shower is an important step to keep your marble tiles clean and durable. The shower should be wiped down after each use because detergent, soap, and hard water residue easily damage the marble surface. It is therefore advisable to keep a few clean fiber cloths in the bathroom so that anyone using the shower can wipe the walls after use. It is best to wipe from top to bottom. You can also use a bathroom fan to blow away moisture and keep your walls and floors dry.

    Weekly cleaning

Showers that are used once or twice a day may only need to be cleaned once a week. Regardless of how often the shower is used, the walls should be dry after each use. There are two ways to clean a marble shower. You can use commercial marble cleaners available in stores or you can do it yourself (DIY) using your own machine.

If you decide to use the DIY method, you will need the following tools

    • spray bottle
    • Hot water
    • A mild dishwasher detergent
    • microfiber cloths
    • Bucket (if desired)

    Steps for self-cleaning

    1. Prepare a cleaning solution by carefully mixing a small amount of mild dishwashing liquid with warm water in a spray bottle.
    2. Spray the solution liberally on the walls and floor of the bathroom, working from top to bottom.
    3. Wipe with a microfiber cloth in a circular motion, paying particular attention to stain-prone areas such as drains and faucets.
    4. Rinse the soap solution off the walls, working from top to bottom. You can use a bucket or a hand-held shower. This will leave a sparkling clean surface.
    5. Wipe the water off the floor and walls with a microfiber cloth or mop.
    6. Wipe walls with a microfiber cloth to shine on all surfaces.

    Tools for Stubborn Stains

Sometimes stains remain on marble tiles even after a thorough cleaning. The following tips can help remove stubborn stains.

    • Use fine steel wool to carefully remove mineral deposits that may have formed around drains and fittings. Make sure the scraper is light so as not to leave scratches on the marbles.
    • Use fresh, active 12% hydrogen peroxide to remove stains caused by bath additives. Moisten a paper towel or microfiber cloth and place it on the stain for about ten minutes. If the stain comes out, rinse the area well, dry and buff.
    • Use an approved marble cleaner to remove mold and mildew.

Precautions to take when cleaning marble surfaces

Although marble is essentially a stone, it is quite fragile. Therefore, the tools and products used to clean a marble shower must be chosen carefully.

    • Before you begin cleaning, make sure you have read and followed the manufacturer’s instructions for maintaining marble walls and floors.
    • Never use acidic cleaning products such as vinegar, lemon or citrus soaps. These products can damage marble surfaces.
    • Use only PH-neutral cleaners recommended for marble surfaces.
    • Never use brushes, scrapers or coarse brushes. They can easily leave unsightly scratches and marks on marble tiles.
    • Do not polish marble tiles. Simply clean and seal the marble floor. Because if you polish the floor then it may become slippery and unsafe for you and your family.

If resealing is required, follow the marble tile manufacturer’s recommendations for sealing marble tile. A proper sealant will protect your marble tiles and prevent the growth of mold and mildew.

Understandably, it’s best to keep your marble shower clean at all times. However, you may not be confident in keeping your marble tiles clean without damaging them. Clean Couches Sydney offers excellent cleaning services in the area that will make your marble shower shine.
